Israel Trip

Jim worked in a local design center of an Israely company for a while. In July 2003 he got to take a business/vacation trip to Israel.

Jim and a New Friend	I took a tour with a small group to the Dead Sea. On the way, the van stopped and the a local provided photo ops with a camel for a small fee.
Masada	Masada is a small plateau overlooking the Dead Sea that is rich in history. This is a model of the plateau in the visitors center.
On the Way Up	This is the cable car that goes from the visitor's center to the top of the plateau. There is also a trail that can be seen in the picture.
Looking Back	This picture looks back at the visitor's center from the cable car. A restored Roman encampment can also be seen.
The Dead Sea	This is the Southern end of the Dead Sea.

The Palace	King Harod built a palace on the upper cliff of the north face of Masada. This is a view looking down into the ruins.
Roman Encampment	This shows another encampment that was set up by the Romans when they assaulted a group of Israelis that had taken refuge on the plateau.
The Rampart	During their assault, the Romans actually built this ridge leading up to the plateau.
Dead Sea Scrolls	The caves shown here are where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered.
Tel Aviv	I stayed at a hotel in Tel Aviv. This is a shot of an ancient port city, whose name I forgot, that is on the southern end of Tel Aviv. The company sponsored a tour of this port city, which I was lucky enough to get on and which was very interesting. It would have been even more interesting if I spoke Hebrew.
Tel Aviv	This is another shot from my room in Tel Aviv showing the beach.
Jerusalem	I got a private tour of Jerusalem from a retired army Major who was involved with the capture of Jerusalem. Here, I'm in front of a menorah statue that sits at a government complex.
Old City	This is inside the old city of Jerusalem. I thought this area would be something like a historical park, but it has residential and commercial areas.
Wailing Wall	This is the Wailing Wall inside the old city. The bottom part of a Muslim masque can be seen above the Wailing Wall.
Arab Section	The old city is divided into the Israeli, Christian, and Arab sections. This is an Arab market.
Shop	This is my tour guide on the right, with a shop keeper. He guided me to this shop, so I'm sure he gets a healthy kick-back from the shop keeper.
More Ruins	This is still inside the old city. I lost track of the ruins, but I believe this was built by the Romans.

Tour of Jerusalem	We drove around Jerusalem. Here you can see the golden dome of the masque that is above the wailing wall.
