Pennsylvania Trip

In June of 2017 I took a trip to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania to meet up with my high school friend Len.

June 7 - I took the red eye out to Pittsburgh, Pa.
June 8 - Len picked me up, we drove out to the the Grand Canyon of PA and started our bike trip.
June 8 night - We spent the night at the Cedar Run Inn B&B
June 9 - We finished the bike trip at Jersey Shore, visited Woolrich, and continued down 220 then 120 along the Susquehanna
June 9 night - We stayed in Emporium and had pizza.
June 10 - We continued back to Pittsburgh, stopping at the Kinzua Viaduct.
June 11 - We saw the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh.
June 12 - We hung around Pittsburgh.
June 13 - We drove up to Erie and biked Presque Isle State Park.
June 13 night - We stayed in Erie
June 14 - We walked around Erie in the morning then headed to Titusville near Oil Creek State Park.
June 14 night - We stayed in a motel made from train cars in Titusville.
June 15 - We started of with a bike ride thru the OilCreek State Park, went thru the Drake Well museum complex, and then went back to Pittsburgh
June 16 - In down town Pittsburgh we went thru the Heinz History Center and then walked down Penn Ave.
June 17 - Len, Barb, and I took a day trip to Meadowcroft Rock Shelter and Historic Village and finished off with dinner in Washington, PA.
June 18 - Len and I did some morning sight seeing in Pittsburgh and then off to the airport.

First Day - Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania	I arrived in Pittsburgh on the morning of June 8. Len picked me up and we headed north/east then east along route 6 to Ansonia. We parked Pine Creek Outfitters where Len made arrangements to have the his car driven to our destination at Jersey Shore. We then got on our bikes, mine being borrowed from Len's son, and started down the Grand Canyon of Pa. along Pine Creek.

First Day - Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania - Cedar Run	We arrived at Cedar Run that afternoon and stayed at the Cedar Run Inn.

Second Day - Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania	The next day we continued on our bike trip. The canyon opened into a valley and became less isolated.

Second Day - Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania	We went through a few charming small towns.
Second Day	We finished our ride at Jersey Shore ( a town in the middle of PA - go figure ) and picked up Len's car. We drove to the town of Woolrich and visited the original, and possibly only remaining, Woolrich store. We continued down 220 and then 120 along to the Susquehanna and through some isolated and very pretty country. We got a hotel room in the town of Emporium, home of the Allegheny Portage. We found a fine pizza place in town for dinner.
Third Day - Kinzua Viaduct	On the way back we stopped at the remains of the Kinzua Viaduct, a railroad bridge spanning a canyon. It collapsed in 2003.

Sixth Day - Starting at Len's Place	We've loaded the bikes and are ready to start out for Erie and Presque Isle.

Seventh Day - Erie - Perry Square Park	We spent that night at an Erie motel and walked around town the next morning.

Seventh Day - Erie - Maritime Museum	We ended the Erie visit at the Maritime Museum and headed south to Titusville. We spent the night at the Caboose Model where the rooms are converted railroad cabooses.
Eighth Day - Oil Creek State Park	The next morning we drove a short distance to the Drake Well Museum and Park, parked the car, and did a bicycle trip through the Oil Creek State Park and back.

Eighth Day - Drake Well Museum Complex	After the bike ride, we wandered around the Drake Well Museum Complex and waited out a brief thunder storm in one of the museum buildings.

Nineth Day - Penn Avenue	We walked down Penn Avenue and had lunch at Robert Wholey Fish Market.
Tenth Day - Meadowcroft Rock Shelter	Meadowcroft Rock Shelter is about an hour west of Pittsburgh. It is an area under a rock shelf that housed Native Americans for thousands of years. It was quite impressive.

Tenth Day - Meadowcroft Historic Village	There is a Colonial era village just up the hill from the rock shelter. Here Len tries out an atl-atl, which is a spear thrown with the assistance of a long stick to provice additional power.

Eleventh Day - Pittsburgh	On the morning of my last day we drove up the bluff South of the city. Here is where the Allegheny and Monongahela meet to form the Ohio. We then left for the airport.
